General Election 2018: Ali Asghar Munda quit PML-N and will contest election as an independent

Ali Asghar Munda an advisor of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and MPA from PP 165 Sheikhupura IV announced to resign as an advisor and to quit ruling PML-N. He announced to contest the next general election as an independent candidate. He made it clear that he will not join the PTI and prefer to contest as an independent.

It is not yet clear that whether he will contest just for provincial assembly or rather challenge PML-N stalwart and federal minister Rana Tanveer Hussain on national assembly seat. He is widely popular in his constituency as he keeps close contact with his supporters and voters.

It is not surprising because Ai Asghar Munda has serious political differences with Rana Tanveer Hussain. Ali Asghar was denied PML-N ticket from PP 165 in 2013 general elections on the pressure of Rana Tanveer. He was denied ticket even though he was a sitting MPA. He contested as an independent candidate and defeated PML-N candidate by a wide margin. He joined PML-N after winning the election.  He won the election on PML-N ticket from PP 165 in 2008 general elections.
