The senior most and outspoken PML-N leader and Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan announced his decision to contest the 2018 general elections from four constituencies NA-59, NA62, PP-10 and 14. He will contest from two national assembly and two provincial assembly seats in the upcoming general elections.
NA 59 is his home constituency where he never lost an election since 1985. He is the only member parliament who has won 8 consecutive elections of national assembly from his constituency. No other politician can match his flawless record in the electoral politics.
Nisar selected the constituencies to contest upcoming general elections after meeting chairmen and vice chairmen of 27 union councils in NA-59. He has a very strong group of his supporters in this constituency who support him beyond his party affiliation.
NA 62 constituency is consisting of Taxila, Wah cantt and surrounding rural areas. He contested election from this constituency in 2002, 2008 and 2013. He lost to Ghulam Sarwar khan in 2002 and 2013 but win in 2008. This constituency is not his strong hold and Ghulam Sarwar Khan won many elections from this constituency. Both Nisar and Sarwar give tough time to each other in every election. So a close contest is expected in this constituency.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also lost election in provincial assembly seat PP 14 which falls under NA 62 against the younger brother of Sarwar Khan. Siddique Khan defeated Chaudhry Nisar Ali khan with close margin of few hundred votes.
It is not yet clear that Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will contest elections on party ticket or as an independent candidate. In any case, however, the local leaders who met him assured him of their full support. Chaudhry Nisar was once very close aid of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but both fell out after the Panama case. Chaudhry Nisar still enjoys good relations and chemistry with Punjab Chief Minister and PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif. Shahbaz Sharif has announced to award party to Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for upcoming general elections.
Earlier, Chaudhry Nisar had ‘warned’ the PML-N leadership that he would contest general elections in independent capacity if ‘defamation campaign’ against him allegedly patronised by some party bigwigs did not stop.
