General Election 2018: Federal Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari will contest election from NA-190 DG Khan II

General Election 2018: Federal Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari will contest election from NA-190 DG Khan II

Federal Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari announced to contest the next general election from NA-190 Dera Ghazi Khan ii (previous NA-173) and PP-288 DG Khan IV. He also announced the candidate for PP-287 DG Khan iii where Sardar Javed Akhtar Khan Lund will contest.   Awais Leghari wins three consecutive elections since2002 from the same constituency.  DG Khan District had three National Assembly constituencies before the new delimitations. Now DG Khan has four seats in the national assembly.
Even though Awais Leghari is part of PML-N but he has his own local group called Leghari Group. Leghari group has support in both DG Khan and Rajan Pur districts. Leghari group contested the last general election as an independent group and joined the PML-N after winning the election. Jamal Khan Leghari, the elder brother of Awais Leghari lost the last election against Hafiz Abdul Karim of PML-N.  Leghari and Khosa groups are traditional rivals in DG Khan District. Sardar Zulifqar Khosa is the leader of Khosa group which was part of the PML-N for long period of time. Leghari group was headed by late Sardar Farooq Leghari and was part of PPP.  PPP elected Farooq Leghari president of Pakistan after the 1993 general elections.
Both groups left their respective parties.  Farooq Leghari formed his own political party called Millat Party which he later merged with PML-Q. Sardar Khosa developed differences with party leadership and hasn’t joined any political party yet.  A close contest expected between the two groups irrespective of their political affiliations.
