General Election 2018: Fewer candidates contesting the 2018 General Elections

In 2013 General Elections, 28302 candidates submitted their nomination papers. In 2018 only 21,482 candidates submitted their nomination papers. It means that nearly 7,000 less candidates are contesting the 2018 general elections compare to 2013.

There are 2000 less candidates for national assembly and 5000 fewer candidates for four provincial assemblies.  The two main reasons behind this decreased number of candidates are much strict scrutiny of the nomination forms and increased security deposit to stand in the elections.
