PML-N lost yet another MPA from Punjab. Malik Mazhar Abbas Raan MPA elected from PP201 Multan iv in 2013 general elections. He is a veteran politician from Qadir Pur Raan town near Multan. He has contested 7 elections for the provincial assembly since 1988 and won twice in 1997 and 2013. He contested three elections from 1988 to 1993 on PPP ticket and lost to then PML-N candidate Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
He was elected MPA for the very first time in 1997 on PML-N ticket. He defeated Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s younger brother. He ran for the provincial assembly seat as a candidate of PPP from Constituency PP-166 (Multan-VII) in 1988 general elections but lost to Shah Mehmood Qureshi with a narrow margin. He received 21,059 votes but still lost the election.
He lost five elections with very narrow marjin. He is a very strong candidate who enjoys support in the constituency. Even though, he lost five elections but he maintained his vote bank. He even increased his votes in every election. His decision to join PTI is a big blow for the PML-N MNA Abdul Ghaffar Dogar who defeated Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the last general elections from NA 148 constituency.
It will be a big boost for the PTI candidate Zain Qureshi who is the son of Shah Mehmood Qureshi. A close contest is expected in this constituency between Ghaffar Dogar of PML-N and Zain Qureshi of PTI.
