KARACHI: Defending champions PIA lost yet another match in the Super Round of the 64th National Hockey Championship in Sukkur on Monday.
The match between WAPDA and PIA was an interesting and closely fought contest. WAPDA defeated the airliners 3-1. PIA, who won the last three championships, had no answer to WAPDA’s outstanding play in the match. WAPDA’s forwards created fruitful moves and their defenders kept PIA’s forward line under check.
Captain Umar Bhutta, Asad Basheer and Ajaz Ahmad netted one goal each for WAPDA. Ehsanullah was the lone scorer for PIA.SSGC, one of the strongest sides in the fray, outplayed KP with a rain of goals, crushing them 10-0. The provincial team proved helpless against the aggressive departmental side.
International Mubashar Ali shone among the scorers with a hat-trick. Naveed Alam and Adeel Latif had a brace each. The other three goals were scored by Rana Sohail, Mohammad Tauseeq and Ali Shan.
Late on Sunday, last year’s runners up National Bank of Pakistan registered an easy 7-1 win over SNGPL.The scorers for NBP were Abubakr, Arslan Qadir, Dilber, brothers Faisal and Bilal Qadir, Ammad Shakeel and Aamer. For SNGPL, Rana Waheed was the lone scorer.
